Really! Nora Ephron’s latest film about the woman we all admire, and the woman who admired her the most, Julie & Julia hits theaters on August 7th. But, if you’re in NYC on August 3rd, you can catch a sneak premiere with a friend for free — ten of you, that is!
It might seem like this film is about the work of two brilliant, creative, independent and wickedly funny women, Julia Child and Julie Powell, who wrote the blog and book Julie & Julia, on which the film is based. But actually, it’s a culmination of theirs and several others, notably Susan Spungen (the film’s food stylist and a longtime food writer/editor), and the incredible Nora Ephron, its director. Call it a smorgasbord — or a Crazy Salad — of talent that came together to make this film, and I was lucky enough to get a chance to meet some of them at a premiere event last week with other food bloggers.
No surprise, then, that the film is really handsomely made, a rich and delightful story of genuine food love. Did I like it? There should be no question about this. Now, for you to see it yourself and decide…
Julie Powell
Julia Child
Let’s have a trivia, shall we? Here’s how it’s going to work: Is it Julie or Julia for the following statements? Make a list of answers, writing either “Julie” (for Julie Powell) or “Julia” (for Julia Child), in chronological order according to the questions, and write it in a comment on this post. The first ten people who have a correct list will be emailed by me. The screening is on August 3rd, in New York City, and the location and time will be told in the email. Remember, you get TWO tickets if you win.
Is it Julie or Julia for the following statements?
She: had never eaten an egg until she was almost 30.
She: was employed by the US Office of Strategic Services.
She: spent nine years writing and getting her first book published.
She: spent six months training with a butcher.
She: has said that her favorite comfort food is “red meat and gin.”

By the way, I saw you last night at the Grill-off and then chickened out of saying hello (didn’t want to seem too much like a crazy stalker… :). Thought you were robbed of the title–the wraps were amazing!
