Oops, I realized I had just one egg in my fridge when I made this yesterday. Oh well. I went ahead, used both the yolk and white, added more milk, tossed in a couple of ounces of bittersweet chocolate, fresh-ground cinnamon, an ounce of mild chili powder, a splash of anise extract. I don't think you can go wrong with this recipe. Just one egg and still it's amazing--potent, complex flavors, wonderful silky texture.

sounds great!! i will try. what are your thoughts on milk / half&half / cream balance? i've been trying different combos of each time i make ice cream and the best try was a few times ago but alas, i can't remember my ratios. used all heavy cream the other day and it was too creamy/silky. is the type of dairy, or the number of egg yolks more key? thanks for any hints!

Hi HTB: Originally I had written the 1 1/4 cups each of heavy cream and whole milk as 2 1/2 cups of half-and-half combined, since it was equal parts milk and cream (which is half-and-half). Sorry for the confusion!

I'm confused by the ingredients ... there are references to heavy and milk, as well as half-and-half. Can you clarify?

Anise and Star Anise are absolutely some of my favorite flavors! The Chocolate/Anise combination is reminiscent of Mexican Champurrado- you've turned a winter drink into a summer treat! I love it!
