Ah, the rumblings begin... I remember when a take-down was just chili. And we only had to bring 1 gallon... Or as Karol Lu said to me at the Chowder Slam, "Hey, remember when we used to win these things??" haha!

Fun was had by many - here's my round-up: http://forkthis.blogspot.com/2009/03/bacon-take-down.html

I actually was one of the cooks for this event -- kudos to Mike O'Neil!

Also -- I'm actually kind of excited that you posted the recipe for his ice cream; I brought the caramel apple bacon cookies, and one of the testers, after tasting it, remarked that it would pair VERY nicely with the bacon bourbon ice cream. Mike brought the contestants at my end of the room samples towards the end of the contest, and I'm inclined to agree; I'm glad that this recipe got posted so I can make it for real now. (Mike, I can send you my recipe if you'd like, too.)

Thanks!

This is a recipe out of one of the Moosewood Restaurant cookbooks called Ira's Lunch. It is a vegetarian sandwich filling, or something to serve over greens. You should give it a shot.
