CJ’s BBQ Menu, and Cook-Off Co-Judges

posted in: Cook-Offs, NYC Events | 3

New York magazine’s Highbrow BBQ has sold out, and those who snagged tickets are in for a treat. As for the rest, I can only promise more tales of barbecue bliss, and hopefully a recipe from the winner of the amateur grilling cook-off. Let’s hope he or she isn’t one of those “it’s a secret” types.

Joining me in deciding who that winner will be are foodie folks who I will certainly have no place arguing with: CJ Jacobson, the event’s chef de cuisine; Andrea Strong, blogger of The Strong Buzz and Bravo For Foodies; and chef Khouri Beatty of Harlem Brewery. And just maybe one other surprise judge.

I can’t wait to see what kind of creations these gung-ho grillers will cook for us. Thanks to everyone who applied for a contestant spot. You guys make me proud. This summer has been a phenomenal one for cook-offs and me, starting with that pie contest on Governor’s Island. I couldn’t think of a better way to end it than with this.

And, if by some miracle I’m not full after judging, another feast awaits – CJ’s highbrow feast. The menu’s just been announced!

Moroccan BBQ pork tortillas with coriander citrus cabbage
Vegetarian BBQ tortillas with grilled Moroccan eggplant, apples and dates
Watermelon and radish salad with cherry tomatoes and feta cheese
Grilled corn on the cob with cojita cheese
Ginger peach cobbler
Assortment of ice cream treats

Produce will be graciously donated by the Rondout Valley Growers Association, part of Pride of New York. And a full afternoon’s worth of free beer will be provided by Harlem Brewery.

Hope to see some of you there!
