I did this exact same thing with Scotch bonnets and black beans - but I got my whole batch of beans made with the damn things before realizing what I'd done! Eventually I diluted part of it with canned beans, but it was still mouth-scorching, and my fingers were dangerous for days. I'm glad I'm not the only one seduced by the Scotch bonnets' deceptive cuteness...

Sorry to hear about the stinging pain. I have done that before when making chili and using scotch bonnets. My advice is to buy a pack of cheap surgical gloves at duane reade and wear them whenever you are cutting peppers even "mild" ones like Jalepenos

Oh my... OUCH!

I wonder if you stirred a whole bunch of plain yogurt or sour cream into the beans, if they might turn into something really good to eat with chips? Or become a really rich soup?

I have a recipe that would be SIMILAR to the above.

Thanks for being so honest and posting the truth about your scotch bonnet mistake--it's refreshing to read that I'm not the only one who does things like this! :)

I jinxed myself by laughing at you... I burned myself because I didn't scrub my hands thoroughly enough while making salsa and chopping jalapenos. I laughed at Scott in the book when he did it, too... my eye is still a little swollen and reddened/chapped? on the eyelid. That sh*t hurt like a motha. Grr.

lol... sorry but as soon as you said it.. I knew... acks. I'm always amused by people who update/change their relationship status on Facebook actually... I'm sorely tempted, when bored, to change mine to single to see how many people notice (though my BF doesn't have Facebook, his friends and coworkers are all "friends" with me on it)... haha.

I love scotch bonnet chillies! I'm starting to think I'm becoming chilli-tolerant though... always chasing that big kick... ;)

Good tip on using brown rice in fried rice - thanks!

the fried rice was excellent. i usually add a fistful of Bhut Jolokias to my fried rice. you should try that sometime.
