Reason for Not Eating Out #20: Book Deal

I couldn’t resist compounding this very attractive reason for not eating out with all the rest, even though it has less to do with eating than it does writing about it. For instance, I could go on not eating out for a lifetime and die fairly happily, I think. But half the fun of this whole experience has been about sharing the obsession with… you. Is it worth my while to do without blogging? Absolutely. But if a tree belches his food-infatuated ramblings out into the forest and no one hears it, does he really belch it out at all?

So, a deep thank-you to all for keeping me from thinking this blog was a waste of everyone’s time. By some leap of faith, the fine editors at Gotham Books, a division of Penguin Group (USA) have gotten to believing the same. A behind-the-scenes of the recipes, defiant reasons for not eating out, and snippets of life touched on in this blog, the Not Eating Out in New York book will hopefully serve a manifesto for a new generation of conscientious and avid home cooks. It won’t exist until sometime in 2009, and by that time, more surprises may be in store.

In the meantime, all new scrimp-and-save worthy recipes and cooking-related ruminations will continue to be posted on this blog just as usual, and I won’t be regurgitating the same writing from this blog in the finished book.

Wow, what a lot of ugly words to write when describing the most amazing experience in my life: belch, regurgitate. I think I’ve been celebrating a little too hard…
