I understand what you mean by regaining control over your life by cooking everything you eat! I'm a graduate student and when school closed for thanksgiving week I decided to stay in (to supposedly do research) and cook all my meals that week. Somehow that felt so empowering!

Haha I see your point. Also there are a lot of times, especially at more upscale/expensive restaurants, I feel like "This dish is not bad in anyway, however it is simply something I do not like." And were I home, cooking it myself, it'd have been exactly what I liked (not as much rosemary or perhaps a different herb altogether; less cooked and more al dente; whatever the case is), but I still pay through the nose for it. How aggravating! Or when something is served and the waiter, nose in air, tells you "the chef asks that you swirl the [item] through the sauces altogether and eat it like so for proper enjoyment" - ummm, because I can't figure out how I like it myself?! Boo to them. Great post/reason!
